The Apple Orchard is comprised
of 1,000 Red and Golden Delicious apple trees and, around the southern
and western perimeter, 100 Russian Olive Trees serve as a wind
break and also provide the added benefit of pest control, due to
their long and needle like thorns. The five-acre orchard was planted
first with olives in 2003 and then re-planted with apples in 2004.
The perimeter interior service road has be planted with “Bird’s
Foot Tree Foil” clover to prevent erosion and to inject nitrogen
into the soil. The entire orchard is protected by a 6 foot tall
fence to keep the deer from eating the tree branch and fruit.

A view standing at the westerly end of the property along Five Creek
Road of the Job’s Peak Ranch Development looking easterly toward
the Ranch House and the Carson Valley. The apple trees along the
right hand portion of the photo were planted as 2-year old trees
at the same time that the olive trees were planted in 2003.

The
wind machine, seen in the middle of the photograph, is operated
by a 450 cubic inch, 300-horse power propane driven Chrysler
engine, which at full speed produces 2,000 RPM’s and can
literally knock a hat off you head if you are standing at any
of the furthest corners of the orchard. The small apple trees
are only one-year old and you can also see the clover growing
as a cover crop between the rows of trees. The orchard was designed
to protect several large Jeffrey Pines. |
The wishing well actually sits atop the 8” agriculture
well and is located at the north end of the Apple Orchard adjacent
to the main entrance gate. Micro sprinklers were installed in order
to irrigate the Bird’s Foot Tree Foil clover cover crop. Looking
due south, the Ranch Hose can be seen in the background.

The orchards, vineyards, roads and buildings and
are all identified with beautiful carved wooden cedar signs, accented
in black, tan and green.

Upon entering the north gate, the apple orchards come into view with
the ranch house and other structures in the distance.
|
Here's a wintery evening view of the north gate
or main entrance. The concrete driveway has been stained terra cotta
and stamped with a cobblestone effect. Large boulders were strategically
placed to focus the eyes attention toward the entry gates.

The Red Delicious apples are ready for harvesting
in early Fall, just in time to have Owner, Gilles Lagourgue and Chef
Yves Gigot, of the famous local "La Ferme Restaurant " of
Genoa, Nevada convert the apples from whole fruit to mouth watering
apple jelly. |
A view of the Carson Valley, looking
East above the apple orchard down onto a beautiful Tuscan architectural
style structure, which resembles more of a Winery than a mere ranch
Work Shop. |
